The Zimbabwe Library Association (ZimLA) is an association that represents library and information professionals in Zimbabwe. Membership for those who wish to join the Association is voluntary.

ZimLA Membership for Institutions

Institutional membership focuses on supporting member institutions and their staff members.

Membership is for 12 months, and is based on a calendar. Institutional membership has significant savings on site licenses/group purchases for online education materials and annual conference registrations. Institutions are represented on national public policy and regulatory issues that affect them.

Chapters

Chapters are geographic groups affiliated with ZimLA.

Chapters offer regional meetings, continuing education opportunities, newsletters, and networking opportunities. Each chapter has an executive council that promotes the chapter to participate more directly in the governance of the Association through representation of their interests at the National Executive level. ZimLA has five branch chapters that include Matabeleland, Midlands, Manicaland, Masvingo and the Mashonaland Chapter.

Professional Development

ZimLA offers professional and career development opportunities and resources for its members, recent graduates, and others. .

These include but not limited to Competencies for Professional Success, Webinars, Self-Paced Courses, Instructor-Led Blended Courses, Discussion Group Program, Mentoring, links to Grants, Scholarships and Fellowships, and Career development programmes.

We seek to recruit and retain individuals in the profession, serve members, and develop leadership skills.

Lifelong Learning

We provide education, training and facilitate in the profession by expanding curriculum to meet current needs, market educational offerings, credentialing and partnerships with other organisations to support above.

The Association has innovative awards that include membership recognition, service awards, certification, contests and competitions, and service excellence.

Advocacy

The Association leads in being an advocate for concerns of its professionals whist helping members advocate their value to their institutions. Furthermore, we serve as a leading advocate for unrestricted, affordable, and permanent access to quality information for members.

Knowledge Creation and Communication

We also develop and manage a knowledgebase of information research by promoting the creation of the profession’s evidence-based research, and the dissemination and application of scientific knowledge.

Partnerships

We also build a network of experts by developing local, regional, national, and international partnerships and collaborations.
